Blog by Mark Prifogle, GrandView Pharmacy CEO
Together, we have been changing lives. One shot at a time. While many of us were not in the field first hand, all of those who served behind the scenes, offered support or worked in the pharmacy had a helping hand to ensure our vaccination clinics were executed flawlessly. This is a victory for all of us.
As Indiana opens its nursing homes back up for indoor visitation this week, a friend of mine, whose building was served by our clinics, sent me a photo of two sisters who haven’t been able to touch each other for a year. He said they just held each other’s faces and looked at each other as they cried. The photo he shared is heartwarming and heart-wrenching all in one. You can feel the love and the heartache they have felt all this time.
This is what winning looks like. This is what purpose looks like.
Everyone’s work helped make this happen. For this family, and for thousands of others. Families will be able to embrace each other once again.
Congratulations everyone, we pretty much saved the world.
Succeeding in long-term care vaccinations
It’s rewarding to see our work helping to make a measurable impact on the health and safety of those we vaccinate. We started administering vaccines, first to residents and staff at over 40,000 long-term care facilities, in late December. Since then, there has been a dramatic drop in COVID-19 cases and deaths. According to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data, between December 20 and February 21, COVID-19 cases decreased by 94 percent and COVID-19-related nursing home patient deaths decreased by 84 percent.
