The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) Preferred Pharmacy Partnership Program

Long term care facilities are being asked to participate in a Federal Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program in order to protect elderly residents who are most at risk to the Covid-19 virus.

The long-term care settings eligible include:

  • Skilled Facilities
  • Nursing Homes
  • Assisted Living Facilities
  • Other senior congregate living settings where the majority of residents are over the age of 65 years of age.

The program also assists the LTC facilities by providing resources to protect their residents without having to further burden the care staff within.

How it works?

The CDC is working with long-term care pharmacies to administer the Covid-19 vaccine to elderly residents by utilizing existing resources to perform on-site clinics very similar to the Influenza clinics offered each fall via the partnership of GrandView Pharmacy and CVS.

The GrandView Pharmacy and CVS partnership ensures we will be given an allotment of Covid-19 vaccine to then administer to your residents and staff using the flu clinic concept we have incorporated in the past. GrandView Pharmacy and CVS will handle all distribution, staffing, documentation and billing required by the CDC on your behalf.

Any staff member within these eligible senior living settings is able to be vaccinated through these on-site clinics; however, it is strongly recommended that health care staff be vaccinated as soon as they are eligible and as soon as the vaccine is made available. This could be facilitated through local healthcare departments, so you should check in your particular area.

It is possible for you to administer the Covid vaccine to your residents and employees on your own, but you should be aware that while GrandView Pharmacy may have the Covid vaccine available, we cannot guarantee the quantities you may need. There are other variables as well due to the variances in vaccine available, the type of vaccine available and the storage requirements of the type of vaccine available. Therefore, it is best that you would have opted to participate in the CDC’s Preferred Pharmacy Partnership Program.

Benefits for choosing GrandView as your preferred provider:

  1. Participation ensures your allotment of Covid-19 vaccine.
  2. There is no cost to participate in this program.
  3. Utilize our existing flu clinic program operations.
  4. We’ll handle all distribution, staffing, documentation and billing required by the CDC.
  5. Utilize on-site clinics to ensure newly admitted residents are vaccinated.
  6. All staff members are eligible to participate.

Understanding the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program
Information from www.cdc.gov

The Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care (LTC) Program provides end-to-end management of the COVID-19 vaccination process, including cold chain management, on-site vaccinations, and fulfillment of reporting requirements, to facilitate safe vaccination of this patient population, while reducing burden on long-term care facilities (LTCFs) and jurisdictional health departments. LTCF staff who have not received COVID-19 vaccine can also be vaccinated as part of the program. This program provides critical vaccination services and is free of charge to facilities. This effort will require extensive coordination with jurisdictions, LTCFs, federal partners, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and professional organizations, including American Health Care Association (AHCA) and Leading Age, which include members across both nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
