My passion for working with the elderly began when I was a youth and involved with the Boy Scouts of America. I needed a service project for my Life rank and a friend suggested we volunteer at a local nursing home. We were accepted and for the next six months arrived every Saturday morning to read to residents, talk with them, help with games, wheel them down to dinner or activities, whatever we could do to assist. Also, later when I began in LTC pharmacy services I worked with two corporate nurses that were great in educating me on the needs of the elderly. The consistent theme to me was in helping people. In selling vaccines I was saving children from debilitating diseases, while offering a chance at a quality of life. The same holds true in long term care. But in this case at the other end of the spectrum. I believe what we ultimately do at GrandView Pharmacy is that we offer a quality of life to people in the twilight of their years, and that notion appeals to me. The pros about working at GrandView is that we all seem to share the same vision in assisting our facilities that provide services to the aged. In my own job duties, I like the fact that I have a variety or work. Within my core duties I have a variety of tasks that might crop up daily. It’s a challenge to keep everything straight and assuring my clients’ needs are met. In my free time my wife of 35 years and I have three adult children and we like spending time with them. We are active in our church participating in a couple of small Christian Communities. My pastime or vice is that I am a diehard Indiana University basketball and football, which is another way of saying that I am a glutton for punishment. We also enjoy dining out with longtime friends.

I also want to be a good father and role model for my children; Alexandra (16) and Charlie (13). My passion for serving the elderly was inspired originally while serving as a Community Relations Director for Village Oaks in Fort Wayne. I was especially committed to serving and improving the lives of those facing the challenges of dementia. This passion was fostered further when I acted as a patient navigator for seniors. The name of my company Tradewind Health was taken from the Tradewinds Memory Care Unit at Village Oaks. I enjoy working at GrandView because I enjoy the people I work with and believe in the overall mission of GrandView. Specifically, I am quite impressed with the staff of the Fort Wayne pharmacy at all levels. The position as Director of Business Development challenges me daily and is dynamic with no two days being the same. This role allows me the opportunity to grow and learn every day. My hobbies include travel, running, yoga, reading, dancing, and short-term international missions.

My personal purpose is to honor God by being a Christian wife, mother, daughter, and worker. Also, to help those who I can that God puts in front of me. My passion for the elderly came from my grandparents. They were amazing people and I loved spending time to them, listening to their stories and knowledge. I enjoy working at GrandView, because, I enjoy the family like atmosphere. In my spare time I enjoy being a cheerleader for my children’s sporting events, scrapbooking, singing, teaching Bible class, and simply spending time with my family.

Mel Green, Director of Business Development and Public Relations

Credentials: Direct Marketing/Sales
Education: Bachelor of Arts from Indiana State University
Professional Experiences: 14 years in Direct Marketing/Sales

My purpose is to improve as a Christian, and to make a positive difference in the world every single day that God gives me here. I strive to be the best provider, leader, role model, husband and father I can be for my family, and instill in them that we can accomplish anything with God in our lives.  I have always been naturally drawn to people that are underserved, ignored or “forgotten” and  that is where my passion for the elderly started. We have so much that we can learn from our senior population, and giving back to them in anyway I can is my way of saying thank you for all they’ve done for us in the past, and all they will do throughout their lives. Our elders have paved the way for so many of the amazing things we enjoy today, and a large majority of them suffered and endured war so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. They deserve the best that we can provide, and often times they get overlooked because society may say that it’s not “cool” or it’s not the most prestigious area of work. Therefore, I feel it’s important to work with our seniors, and help the care givers and others who work with the elderly and directly impact their quality of life. I have been with GrandView for 6 years and I mostly enjoy the people. I enjoy the friendships that I have developed over the years with my coworkers, and I love my customers. I have developed friendships with a lot of my customers and coworkers that will last a lifetime. GrandView has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people, and has provided me the ability to complete meaningful work while creating a life for myself and the family that I always dreamed of as a younger man. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife and our 3 ½ year old daughter. I’m a part-time gym rat, which means I like lifting heavy things (i.e working out, weightlifting, etc..) Although I am not great at it I love playing golf. And like most former athletes, I love all things sports; primarily football, basketball, golf and baseball!
